The central choice is variety versus continuity
PollyBuzz AI vs Nomi is not a contest between two versions of the same character directory. PolyBuzz emphasizes discovery and creation across a large community of personalities. You can follow one story, switch genres or build your own character. Nomi is organized around the continuing relationship with a Nomi you create and revisit. Its official beginner guide describes personality, backstory, group conversations, voice and images in that ongoing context.
If you change characters often, asking which platform “remembers more” may be the wrong first question. If you return to the same character for months, counting catalog entries may be equally irrelevant. Decide which behavior describes you before weighing the feature list.
| Question | PolyBuzz | Nomi |
|---|---|---|
| How do I start? | Search community premises or create a new character | Create a Nomi and develop its personality over time |
| What should I test? | Quality of character cards, greetings and later roleplay | Recall, identity, corrections and long-term continuity |
| How does a story grow? | Through chosen characters and new scenarios | Through shared history, backstory and memory layers |
| Which media matters? | Voice, images and story extras in a broad catalog | Voice, images and groups tied to a continuing companion |
| What can cost more? | Membership and coin-funded actions | The features and limits of the current free or paid plan |
Discovery is valuable when it saves setup time
PolyBuzz promotes a large character catalog. That may help you find a niche premise without writing a full profile, but a large number does not guarantee distinctive writing. Search three original scenarios, open several plausible cards and read the first message. Does each card establish who you are, where the scene begins and what the character wants? If not, the next thousand search results are unlikely to fix the underlying problem.
Nomi offers a different shortcut: instead of hunting for a perfect public card, shape one companion’s personality and backstory. The official beginner guide points to Backstory+ and other ways to give enduring context. This costs more setup attention, but it may save repeated searching if your goal is a persistent voice. Try to record how long it takes to reach a satisfying conversation, not just how many characters are available at signup.
Three layers of memory are not a guarantee of recall
Nomi’s official knowledge base separates short-, medium- and long-term memory. It also describes identity-related context and notes that a Nomi may fail to retrieve a detail accurately even when memory exists. PolyBuzz’s FAQ acknowledges technical memory limits and says different models offer different capabilities. Neither product should be described as remembering every message perfectly.
Use a small, repeatable test with invented facts:
- Tell the character about a fictional place, a preference and a relationship between two imaginary people.
- Continue with unrelated ordinary conversation rather than repeatedly reminding it of those facts.
- Ask an indirect question about each fact later in the same session.
- Return after a day or two and ask again in a different wording.
- Classify each answer as accurate, partly accurate, invented or forgotten, and note which model or plan was active.
A visible chat history is not proof the model uses every earlier message. A memory label is not proof of successful retrieval. The test helps you notice the difference without claiming this site has measured a universal winner.
Creative control and media workflow
PolyBuzz’s creation guide covers character image, background, opening message, examples, voice and visibility. This is useful if you want to publish a distinct fictional persona or iterate on a scene introduction. Nomi’s beginner guide describes personality and backstory as part of a continuing companion, plus voice, images and group chats. A group conversation is not equivalent to a public character library; one is about interaction among your selected companions, the other about discovering other creators’ work.
Try the same original adult character in both contexts. On PolyBuzz, assess how well the greeting and community-style profile invite a story. On Nomi, assess whether backstory and identity remain coherent after corrections. If you use image or voice tools, verify the current device, region, plan and consumption rules in each app. Do not infer availability from a promotional image alone.
Privacy requires separate questions
PolyBuzz says other users cannot access private conversations, while its privacy policy describes categories of service data it may collect. Nomi’s privacy policy recommends avoiding personally identifying details in chat and explains account, content, usage and payment information it processes. Read the actual policy for each account you open. “Private from other users” is not the same as “the service processes nothing.”
Keep tests fictional. Do not add real names, private photos, medical histories or another person’s information to see whether an AI will remember them. Know where account deletion and subscription controls are. An emotionally convincing reply is still generated output, not a human promise of confidentiality or expert advice.
A choice you can make after two sessions
Start with PolyBuzz if discovering many characters is itself the hobby, or if you want to publish and compare different roleplay premises. Start with Nomi if the main pleasure is building a continuing relationship and checking how a single character evolves. Give each two short sessions with the same fictional facts, compare the errors and friction, then check the current paid features only if the free experience revealed a specific need. That is a better decision than treating a marketing memory claim or a catalog number as a verdict.
